A decorative 17th-century antique brass wall reflector/sconce with a three-branch candleholder.
Flemish/Dutch origin.
With a shaped hanging bracket, attached verso, in the form of a love heart with punched decoration over a circular reflector decorated with repousee and punch-worked decoration, the centre incorporating a cruciform over a naively stylised crown with a blank shield-shaped cartouche below, flanked by rampant lion bearers at each side and scrolls. The surrounding border is divided into four bands. The inner band is decorated with fretwork. The three outer bands are a mix of repousse and punch-worked decorative forms. A further bracket is applied to the front of the base and accommodates a detachable three-branch candleholder, each with a decorative drip pan and rolled candleholder.
Provenance - Unknown.
Condition - Please refer to the images. The metal has thinning and surface wear commensurate with age. There are minor flaws in the metal and a couple of very old solder repairs. This remains a good, decorative, and useable item. A detailed condition report is available upon request.
