A large mid-17th-century English needlework panel depicting a rare secular country scene. The composition includes figures in rustic dress, stylised trees, animals, and architectural elements — all rendered in coloured silks and wools on a linen ground. The majority of needlework from this period is religious in nature, making this pastoral subject highly unusual.

The stitching is rhythmic and expressive, with charming irregularities and tonal variation. Surface wear, fading, and minor losses are present, with the panel mounted on a later backing for stability.

A rare survival of early English textile art — ideal for collectors of samplers, folk embroidery, or decorative antiques with narrative charm.

Provenance: England. 17th century. Sourced from a private London-based collection.

Condition - As per the images. There is age-related surface wear to the fabric and minor discolouration. There is thinning to the textile and losses to the top. Offered for sale in "attic found" condition, without a frame. This picture is charming in our opinion. A further condition report is available upon request.

Size: Width 49 cm x Height 61 cm (19 1/4" x 24")
