A late 18th-century English antique "country house" herb / kitchen chopper. A rare piece of kitchenalia in that it comes with it's original stand.

The chopper has a beautifully turned lignum vitae handle, fine quality brass posts with decorative knops, and, a steel-blade.

The stand, also made from lignum, has turned pillars which are rebated in order to support the chopper when not in use. The stand is weighted by lead plugs inserted to the underside of the base.

Provenance - Sourced within East Anglia. Clearly made for a wealthy household given the overall quality of this utensil and its stand.

Condition - Please refer to the images. Every element of this item is in excellent, robust, condition. There are no splits to the lignum handle or pillars. There is no rust or pitting to the steel blade. A slight groove to the upper surface of the base is noted where the chopper has been lifted in and out of its stand over two hundred plus years of use.
