If you had worn a wig in the 17th-century, 18th and early 19th-century, it is highly likely that you would have recognized this object!

Of small proportions, the bellows would have been filled with wig powder via the small aperture where the cork is positioned.

Comprising of two shaped wooden sides, one side with aperture and cork-bung, joined to each other by way of a leather bag tacked in to position, the bellows would be pressed shut and this action would result in fine powder being dispensed from the metal nozzle on to the wig.

This is a charming antique and reminds us of the social history and fashion of the day.

Provenance - Ex-private collection, Norfolk, England.

Condition - Good overall. Please refer to the images. The bellows still function despite there age. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
