A finely crafted 16th-century Spanish wedding chest, constructed from wood and richly polychromed.
Its vibrant painted decoration has endured for centuries, with the front panel proudly bearing two heraldic coats of arms.
These arms commemorate the noble union of Don Alonso Pimentel y Pacheco, 5th Count of Benavente (1499–1530), and Doña Ana Herrera de Velasco (1486–1519), daughter of the Constable of Castile.
Such chests were commissioned to celebrate marriage alliances, serving both as practical storage and as a symbolic display of lineage and heritage.
