A rare and evocative Gothic polychrome plaster plaque, richly detailed and steeped in devotional symbolism. This Continental piece depicts two sacred scenes: the Adoration of the Magi and the Crucifixion, rendered in high relief with ochre, crimson, and cobalt pigments. The figures are stylised in Gothic tradition, framed by architectural motifs that echo ecclesiastical tracery.
Of particular note is its provenance—once part of the private collection of Archduke Ludwig Viktor von Habsburg (1842–1919), youngest brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I and a noted patron of the arts. His refined taste and deep engagement with religious iconography lend this piece both cultural and historical gravitas.
