A pair of late 16th-century antique carved walnut panels of Italian origin.
One panel depicts a kneeling male figure playing upon a lyre with a coronet below which has been placed upon a cushion. Below, a carved lozenge is intertwined with scrolls and scrolling foliage.
The second panel depicts a soldier standing full-length, holding a polearm (also known as a "pertuisane") in his right hand. Below, his feet rest upon scrollwork, some which incorporates foliage.
Provenance - Sourced from a private collection in Norfolk, England, where they had been stored in an attic for a number of years.
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is substantial wear and some losses to the panels commensurate with age. These have also had some worm at historocally although this is historic and inactive. It has been trated as a precautionary measure. The panels still display very well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
