A charming pair of early 18th‑century Baroque carved wooden cherubs, each rendered with expressive, softly modelled faces and sweeping feathered wings. These diminutive devotional carvings capture the warmth and theatricality of the Baroque period, where sculptors emphasised movement, emotion, and divine presence.
Carved in the round and finished with traces of historic polychromy, the cherubs display the characteristic Baroque blend of sweetness and drama: rounded cheeks, parted lips, and wings that flare outward with rhythmic feathering. Their compact scale suggests they once formed part of a larger ecclesiastical ensemble — possibly adorning an altarpiece, tabernacle, or architectural surround.
The surfaces show a beautifully aged patina with gentle wear consistent with centuries of devotional use. Together, they make a highly decorative and atmospheric pair, ideal for wall display or incorporation into a curated interior.
