A superb pair of 15th‑century Gothic carved oak door panels, and centred with a deeply carved roundel bearing sacred monograms, framed by intricate tracery and mounted with later iron strapwork. Richly patinated and beautifully crisp, these panels embody the devotional craftsmanship of the late medieval period.
The left panel carries the sacred Christogram IHS — the widely used medieval abbreviation of Ihesus (Jesus), often interpreted as Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus, Saviour of Mankind). The letters are rendered in a bold, interlaced Gothic script, enclosed within a beaded circular border.
The right panel bears a companion monogram, almost certainly the Marian monogram MARIA rendered in the medieval ligature MRA (the A and R entwined within the M). This pairing — Christ and Mary — is entirely typical of late‑medieval ecclesiastical woodwork, especially choir stalls, sacristy doors, and devotional cupboards.
The carving is vigorous and confident, with strong Gothic curves, deep gouge work, and a warm, centuries‑old surface. Mounted together with a decorative iron hinge, they make a striking architectural statement.

Material: Oak and iron.
Condition: Excellent colour and patina. The backs have been planed at some point. Expected age‑related wear, minor losses and surface marks consistent with 500+ years of use. Later ironwork.
