A primitive/naive early 19th-century children's toy, made in the form of a miniature bureau, from deal (pine).
Nailed construction.
With a fall front over an arrangement of five drawers supported by four raised stile feet.
The fall front retains its original hasp. It opens to reveal an interior void of any fittings. The drawers retain their original handles.
The carcass of one of the drawers bears a date of 1817. It is from a recycled piece of timber used in the construction of the piece and could represent the approximate date when made.
Provenance - Found within Suffolk, England.
Condition - Surface wear. Please refer to the images. The toleware hinges which secure the fall front to the carcass have been replaced historically. There is a loss to the corner of the top left drawer front. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
