A mid-19th century English antique leather fire bucket.
We simply love the crusty and time-worn condition.
Bearing the Royal Coat of Arms of Queen Victoria.
These buckets were kept full of dry sand and used in case of fire.
Formed on a mould from wet leather, earlier examples were hand-stitched together, as in this example, rather than riveted.
The bucket is of tapered form.
Provenance - Found in the South-West of England.
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is significant surface wear commensurate with age. The leather carry-handle is missing. The connecting rings for the handle remain and are attached to the carcass. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
