A mid-19th century English antique leather fire bucket.

We simply love its crustiness and time-worn condition.

Bearing the Royal Coat of Arms of Queen Victoria.

These buckets were kept full of dry sand and used in case of fire.

Formed on a mould from wet leather, earlier examples were hand-stitched together, as in this example, rather than riveted.

The bucket is of tapered form. With a single leather carry handle.

Provenance - Sourced within Suffolk, England.

Condition - Please refer to the images. There is significant surface wear commensurate with age. The connecting rings that adjoin the carry-handle to the carcass have been replaced it would appear with a metal that has been found or salvaged from another item! A further detailed condition report is available upon request.

Size: Width 30 cm (12") x Height (excluding carry-handle) 40 cm (15 3/4")
