A mid 18th-century Dutch antique foot warmer/foot stove.
Bearing the name of the owner "Johanna de Bruin" and bearing a date of "1759" to the front panel.
Used in both carriages and carried to church too and used as a small foot heater in church during a service, these boxes were common only to Holland and would usually have a metal or earthenware pottery insert which was filled with hot coals and placed in the box to generate warmth.
With a brass carry handle, the sides and top decorated with geometric chip carving. The top is also decorated with fretwork allowing the heat and smoke from the coals to vent from the box.
This is a very decorative box.
Provenance - Unknown.
Condition - Good as per the images. Missing it's internal liner.
