Reputedly found hidden in a wall of an old Shropshire property whilst the building was undergoing restoration.

Background to death masks:

Since the 13th century, death masks have aided the sculptors of tomb effigies, but in medieval France and England, actual death masks were used for the royal funeral effigies that lay in state. Only English examples exist, however; those in France were destroyed during the French Revolution.

A death mask is a likeness of a person's face after their death, usually made by taking a cast or impression from the corpse. Death masks may be mementos of the dead, or be used for the creation of portraits.

Condition - as per the images. In good condition. There are no traces of restoration or cracks. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
