A late 18th‑century rustic dugout armchair, hewn from a single tree trunk with a shaped back, circular seat board, and decorative punchworked decoration to the surface edges of the back and arm supports. Primitive in construction yet robust in proportion, this rare survival embodies the ingenuity of rural craftsmen who worked directly with natural forms. Its weathered patina and uncompromising honesty make it a striking example of vernacular Georgian furniture.
Provenance - Northern Europe. Late 18th century.
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
Size -- Back Height 98 cm x Seat Height 45 cm (38 1/2" x 17 3/4")
This dugout chair is more than seating — it is a tangible link to the rhythms of rural life, where necessity dictated design. A statement piece for collectors, museums, or interiors that value authenticity and heritage.
