Late 18th Century Primitive Antique Child's Box Chair / Commode Chair
An primitive antique box chair of nailed construction. Made as a child's commode.
Dating back to the latter years of the 18thC.
Constructed from pine boards and in original paint, the chair comprises a shaped back support with carry-handle, shaped arms, plank seat with circular aperture and a restraining bar which can be easily easily detached.
The back is split into two parts with leather hinges. The bottom part opens forward and would have original been used to access the child's potty.
There are traces of feint historic decoration to the front plank seat support.
