A beautifully proportioned late 18th‑century treen goblet, expertly turned from fruitwood and retaining its original fitted lid/cover. The piece shows the elegant lathe‑work typical of Georgian domestic wares, with crisp incised rings, a gently swelling bowl, and a well‑balanced stem rising from a stepped foot.
The surface has developed a warm, mellow patina from over two centuries of handling, giving the wood a soft lustre and a tactile, time‑worn charm. These lidded goblets were often used for spices, small dry goods, or personal keepsakes — each one subtly unique, shaped by the hand of the turner.
A quietly refined example of English treen, perfect for collectors of early woodenware or those seeking an evocative decorative accent with genuine age.
Provenance: England, late 18th century.
Material: Fruitwood (turned on a pole lathe).
Condition: Excellent for its age, with expected minor surface wear and age‑related marks. Lid fits well. Please refer to the images.
