A fine late 18th‑century rise‑and‑fall candlestick
This elegant brass rise‑and‑fall candlestick dates to the late 18th century and is made from Scandinavian sheet brass, a material prized for its warm tone and subtle reflective quality. The design features a classic rolled rim, a broad, oval-shaped drip pan base, and an adjustable stem that allows the candle height to be raised or lowered — a practical and desirable feature in period lighting.
Historic sheet‑brass construction
The candlestick is constructed from hand‑worked sheet brass, giving it a distinctive lightness and a softly undulating surface typical of Scandinavian brassware of the period. The surface retains a pleasing aged patina, enhancing its character without compromising its clean, elegant silhouette.
A decorative and functional antique
Rise‑and‑fall candlesticks were used throughout the 18th century to control light levels in domestic interiors. Today, they make beautiful decorative accents — equally at home in Georgian, country‑house, Scandinavian, or contemporary settings.
