This is a superb 17th-Century English Oak Box Stool.
This antique piece is crafted from dark oak and features a hinged top that opens to reveal a practical compartmentalised interior, traditionally used for storage.
The front rails are decorated with simple, classic channelled mouldings. A prominent feature is the original, rectangular iron lock plate set into the front rail, adding to its authentic period character.
The stool stands on four highly decorative bobbin-turned legs, a popular style of the period, which are firmly united by sturdy square-section stretchers, ensuring its stability.
Provenance: England. Late 17th-Century.
