A late 16thC English antique oak wainscot armchair of peg-joined construction.
The cresting rail scratch-carved with the date "1611" and initials "W" and "DW" along with later gouge-carved initials of "RHR".
With a single panelled-back, shaped arms, plank seat, turned arm supports, turned front legs (the backs of plain form) all united by peripheral stretchers.
Good colour and patination.
Provenance - Ex-Private collection, Southern Ireland.
Condition - as per the images. All joints are sound. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
Size - Back Height 44 3/4" x Depth of Seatboard 14 1/2" x Overall Depth (including sloping back) 20" x Width (outer-arm to outer-arm) 24" x Width (inner-arm to inner-arm) 17 1/2" x Seat Height 18 1/2".
