A late 16th Century English antique oak boarded box.

Nailed construction. With a sloped front joined to the carcass by way of original iron "butterfly" hinges. The front and end boards are carved with a geometric pattern with stylised arcading incorporating elongated acanthus leaves. The lid opens to reveal an interior with two compartments.

With its original lock plate. The hasp has been replaced historically.

Excellent colour and patination.
