A late 18th-century coopered jug bound with iron hoops. This is one of two we are offering for sale.
Constructed from oak staves, the jug displays the true craftsmanship of the cooper (barrelmaker).
With an iron pouring spout, a shaped metal handle, and a bulbous body, bound by five iron rings, this jug has a rustic charm.
Provenance - Unknown - possibly French in origin, given its form and construction.
Condition - As per the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age. The bindings do have oxidation. The staves are sound. All-in-all, the jug would look good displayed in many settings.
Size - Height 47 cm x Base Diameter 26 cm (18 1/2" x 10 1/4")
