A large antique earthenware albarello / pharmacy jar dating back to the early 18th century.
Italian origin - most probably Tuscan or Veronese.
The maiolica decorated baluster-shaped body with twin carry-handles is decorated predominantly in ochre and green above the glaze and bears an unidentified armorial device and the inscription "Aqua di Spigo". Translated we believe this means "lavender water."
The jar displays very well and has real presence.
Provenance - Sourced directly from Italy.
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age and some glaze losses, specifically verso. There is evidence of a feint hairline crack albeit stable verso. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
