A hand-forged antique iron bolt lock of large proportions. Also known as a "Bultlås" in Sweden from where this originates.
Made during the early 17th-Century. This example retains much of its original polychrome/paint.
With a substantial "S"- shaped shank joined to the barrel by way of a single hinge and it's original key with a plain, circular bow (handle).
This type of padlock was common during the Middle Ages and consisted of two main parts: the lock case and a removable bolt.
The lock shown features decorative elements, including S-shaped designs between transverse bands.
Bolt locks are typically opened by inserting a key that compresses internal springs, thereby releasing the bolt.
Examples of these locks have been found during archaeological excavations, such as one with silver inlays discovered at Kungsbro farm in Linköping, Sweden.

Condition - Please refer to the images. The key no longer functions. Due to this, the lock itself and the shackel remains firmly closed.
