A powerful and expressive late medieval carved wooden figure of Christ, originally part of a wall‑mounted crucifix. The carving displays the unmistakable hallmarks of late 15th‑century devotional sculpture: elongated proportions, attenuated torso, and a deeply humanised expression that reflects the spiritual intensity of the period.
Centuries of survival have left their mark. The feet and left arm were lost long ago, and the surface has developed a beautifully honest, naturally worn patina. The carving remains structurally sound, with no modern repairs, and retains a remarkable emotional presence despite its fragmentary state.
This is a moving devotional survivor — intimate, contemplative, and full of character. A compelling addition for collectors of medieval sculpture, ecclesiastical art, or early wooden corpus fragments.
Provenance: Europe. 15th Century.
Material: Oak. Presented on a contemporary ebonised stand.
Condition: Used antique condition. Beautiful, naturally aged patina. Historic losses to the feet and left arm. No modern restoration. Please refer to the images.
