A multiple-use George III period English antique treen gaming board, crafted circa 1800. Designed for chess, draughts, or checkers, the board features a hand-laid grid of alternating squares in native fruitwood and dark-stained timber, framed by a simple moulded edge.
Treen gaming boards of this period were often made for domestic leisure, reflecting both craftsmanship and the rising popularity of strategic games in Georgian England. The use of native woods and the board’s compact, portable form suggest it was made for a gentleman’s parlour or family drawing room.
A rare survival with excellent patina and surface wear consistent with age and use. Structurally sound and visually appealing, it offers collectors a tactile link to early 19th-century recreation.
Provenance: England. Early 19th century.
Condition: There is surface wear commensurate with age. The board has wonderful patina and can still be used for gaming.
Size: Width 33 cm x Depth 2.5 cm x Height 33 cm (13" x 1" x 13")
