Follower of Sir Peter Lely - A fine pair of 17th-century English school antique oil on canvas half-length portraits of Sir Thomas Craven and his wife, Lady Margaret Craven.

Sir Thomas Craven was born on 2 October 1585. He married Lady Margaret Hiett Baugh Craven in 1629, in Middlesex, England. They were the parents of at least 4 sons. He died about 1636, in England, at the age of 52, and was buried in Lancashire.

Lady Margaret Hiett Baugh Craven was born on 3 October 1603, in Burnsall, Yorkshire, England.  She died in 1657, in her hometown, at the age of 54.

Both are portrayed in feined ovals and period attire. Sir Craven with a long wig, lace stock, and silk coat. Lady Craven sits with her hair in ringlets, wearing a pearl necklace and a low-cut silk dress.

Both paintings are inscribed verso with the name, date of birth, and data of death of each sitter. Lady Craven's year of birth and death are incorrect.

Provenance - Unknown.

Condition - Please refer to the images. Both portraits are currently unframed and offered in "as found" country-house condition. The colours of both remain good and they both display well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
