A late 17th Century English School antique oil on canvas head and shoulders portrait of King James II, after the original full-length portrait by Sir Godfrey Kneller painted about 1684-1685.
Slightly naive and undertaken by an unknown artist.
Depicting King James II as a bewigged gentleman with long wig, typical of the period, with white lace stock, armoured breast plate and blue sash.
Presented in an associated gilt-gesso frame of 18th Century date.
Verso, a label states "Walter Carter Harrods Ltd, Southport", with type written "Blake 111". Walter Carter was a Manchester-based retail business acquired by Harrods in 1920.
Condition - Offered for sale in unrestored condition. Please refer to the images. The canvas has been re-lined historically. There are minor losses to the gilt gesso frame, specifically the bottom edge of the moulding and a very minor element to the top left inner-corner near the slip (top right of the images).
