Step back into the Georgian era with this finely crafted 18th-century style flintlock tinder lighter.

Used to ignite tinder, a small combustible material that could be used to start a larger fire. The lighter used the action of a flint against steel to create a spark to ignite highly flammable materials such as paper, wood shavings, and cloth.

When lit, it looked more like a portable torch than a lighter. It was neither convenient to use nor reliable. The tinder could never be relied upon to light the first time. The fuel in tinder boxes had to be coaxed to a flame by blowing into it.

Made to replicate the mechanical precision and aesthetic charm of antique fire‑lighting devices, it features a compact form with brass and steel elements, evoking the craftsmanship of the age. Collectors of antique lighters, historic weaponry, and Georgian household artefacts will appreciate its connection to daily life in the 1700s.

Whether displayed as part of a tobacciana collection, or early lighting collection, or simply admired for its ingenuity, this tinder lighter embodies the spirit of innovation and survival in pre‑industrial England.
