A late 17th-century English antique leather costrel of unusually large size.
Provenance - From the contents of Doughton Manor, Gloucestershire, England. The house was originally constructed in 1594 (see the image in the gallery).
The costrel was used as a flask for the carriage of water or other liquids.
Made from hand-stitched leather and of typical form. The shoulders are pierced by a thong, and the main body retains traces of pushed decoration.
The leather has developed a lovely patina and hardness over the passage of time.
Provenance: England. 17th century. From the contents of Doughton Manor, Gloucestershire, England. The house was originally constructed in 1594 (see the image in the gallery).
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age and an age-related minor tear to one corner. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
