An early 18th-century reverse transfer print on glass of King Charles I (1600-1649) after the original portrait by Sir Anthony Van Dyke (1599-1641), by Isaac Beckett (1653-1719), an English mezzotint engraver and one of the first practitioners of the art in the country.

Published, circa 1718, by John Smith, (1652?–1742) he was Beckett's pupil, and appears to have obtained possession of many of his plates and to have placed his own name on them, not only as publisher, but on some even as the engraver.

Inscribed on this plate below the image "Carolus D.G. Ang: Sco: Fra: et Hib Rex" "A van Dyke pinx:" "I Beckett fe:" and "Sold by I. Smith at the Lyon and Crown in Russell Street Covent Garden".

Presented in its original ebonised frame with gilt border.

Provenance - Unknown.

Condition - The original glass is in good condition. There is some fading to the inscription. Aside that, the picture displays well as per the images. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.

Size -  44.7cm x 34.4cm (17 1/2" x 13 1/2")
