A truly exceptional example of English Gothic furniture, this magnificent oak aumbry has been constructed using 16th‑century timbers, bringing the drama, symbolism, and craftsmanship of the Tudor world into the present day. This is not merely storage — it is architecture in miniature, alive with carved iconography and the unmistakable presence of early English design.

Top Tier

A central cupboard door carved with a bold, stylised Gothic motif, framed by:

Deeply cut floral roundels

Crisp quatrefoil medallions

Tudor‑period geometric detailing

A dramatic pierced arch door takes centre stage, flanked by:

Stylised feather‑carved panels

Provenance: Probably made on Wardour Street, London, in the 19th Century using a mix of 16th-century and later timbers. A near‑identical example is held by the Victoria & Albert Museum, currently on loan to Hampton Court Palace. This design is one of the most recognisable and celebrated forms of English Gothic domestic furniture — a rare opportunity to acquire a piece with genuine museum‑level parallels.

Condition: Constructed from 16th‑century & later English oak, with later sympathetic assembly in keeping with period practice. Rich colour, crisp carving, and a wonderfully atmospheric presence. A superb statement piece for collectors, designers, and historic interiors.
