An early 19th-century Flemish antique carved fruitwood appliqué depicting the head and torso of a female figure. Likely used as a dressmaker’s advertising sign or decorative panel, this tactile carving reflects the folk art traditions of rural Belgium.
The figure is carved in shallow relief with stylised features, flowing hair, and a gentle expression. The fruitwood retains a warm, oxidised patina with traces of early toolwork and surface wear. Its form is both sculptural and emblematic, suggesting use in a commercial or domestic setting.
A rare and evocative survival of Continental folk art — ideal for collectors of carved wood, Flemish decorative antiques, or historical signage.
