A characterful and historically resonant oak book rest, bearing a carved inscription and date of 1805. Crafted during the early 19th-century, this piece combines practical design with period charm. The scalloped top edge and hinged support ledge suggest use for devotional or scholarly reading, while the aged patina and hand-carved detailing speak to its early 19th-century origins.
Provenance: Early 19th-Century. Eastern European. Dated 1805
Condition: Please refer to the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age. The top left corner has a very slight age-related loss and there are minor traces of old worm albeit long since gone. Treated too as a precautionary measure.
Dimensions: 18" wide x 10.5" high (approx. 45.7 cm x 26.7 cm)
A rare survivor from the early 19th-century, ideal for collectors of early furniture, bibliophiles, or those curating period interiors.
