This fine English boarded oak chest, dating to the early 17th century, is a superb survival of period country furniture. Constructed from six solid oak planks, supported by shaped end‑boards, it retains its rustic charm and robust character. The lid, joined to the carcass by wire hinges, opens to reveal a simple interior, typical of domestic storage pieces of the Stuart era.
Boarded coffers such as this were widely used in rural households for storing textiles, valuables, and everyday goods. Its warm patina, honest construction, and historical resonance make it an ideal addition to collections of antique oak furniture, coffers, and country house interiors.
Provenance: Early 17th Century (c.1600–1630). England. Found in a Norfolk property.
Material: Oak, six‑plank boarded construction.
Features: Shaped end‑boards, wire‑hinged lid, rustic patina.
Dimensions: W 97 cm x D 38 cm x H 51.5 cm (38 1/4" x 15" x 20 1/4").
