This robust English oak boarded chest, dating to the 17th century, is a fine survival of country furniture with strong regional provenance. Constructed from six solid oak planks, it retains its original iron fittings and displays the honest craftsmanship typical of rural joiners with a decoratively carved front panel.

Discovered in Cumbria, this chest carries the character of northern English domestic life. Six‑plank coffers were widely used for storing textiles, valuables, and household goods, making them both functional and symbolic of everyday life in Stuart England. Its warm patina, sturdy construction, and provenance make it an ideal addition to collections of antique oak furniture, coffers, and country house interiors.

Provenance: 17th Century (c.1650–1700). England, Cumbria.

Material: Oak, six‑plank boarded construction.
