Rarely do you come across a piece that hasn't had repairs or replaced elements and, so forth.
This is indeed a rarity! An elongated oak bench, correctly known as a "form" in original condition dating back to the day it was made in the joiners workshop.
English in origin and dating back to the early 17th Century.
Of joined construction, the form comprises a single plank seat over a carved supporting apron to one elongated side only, the other elongated side is of plain form, with four splayed turned legs united by an "H" stretcher.
Provenance - Ex-private collection of the owner of Holt Antiques at Walsingham Mill.
Condition - Please refer to the images. The form has had old worm which is inactive and was treated by the owner when first acquired. The plank top has a warp and has a loss at one corner. The feet to the two back legs are worn down so the form does lean slightly backwards. These could be re-tipped if need be however the current owner has decided, for originality, to leave everything "as found". A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
