An early 16th-century Flemish antique carved oak figure depicting an angel bearing a shield in his right hand. The figure is carved to the front with flowing ringlets, full-length robes, and a serene expression, reflecting the devotional and heraldic traditions of the period.
The oak retains a dry, aged patina with traces of early toolwork and surface wear. The shield may have once borne a painted or gilded emblem, now lost to time. Likely part of a larger ecclesiastical ensemble or architectural setting, the figure carries both spiritual and symbolic weight.
A rare and sculptural survival of late medieval Flemish craftsmanship — ideal for collectors of religious antiques, Gothic sculpture, or heraldic carvings.
Provenance: England. 16th century. Previously sold by Keith Hockin Antiques, Stow-on-the-Wold.
Condition - as per the images. There is a loss to the left hand, and the angel's wings are missing (the rebates are still evident verso). A further condition report is available upon request.
