We are delighted to offer for sale this 17th Century salt-glazed stoneware bellarmine jug. Unrestored.
Reputedly dredged from the River Wensum, Norwich, Norfolk, England, around the Carrow Road bridge area when dredging was undertaken in 1922.
With a typical bearded mask, bearing a decorative medallion to the baluster-shaped body and dating to circa 1620-1675, this jug is decorated in tiger-glaze.
Provenance -Sourced within the UK. Dredged as stated.
Condition - Please refer to the images. Offered for sale as found / dredged from the river bed. No restoration. With losses to the string rim and a very small perforation to the main body caused by movement against the river bed when under water. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
