An evocative fragment of 18th-century gilt gesso, richly decorated in classical relief and retaining traces of its original gilded surface. Likely once part of a larger architectural or frame element, this piece offers a glimpse into the ornamental vocabulary of Georgian interiors.
The fragment features swags, scrolling acanthus and foliate motifs, rendered in high relief and finished in gold leaf over gesso. Its surface bears the patina of age, with areas of wear, flaking, and loss consistent with long-term attic storage. The reverse is unfinished and retains early tool marks.
This is a sculptural survivor — ideal for collectors of architectural salvage, decorative arts, or those seeking a period accent with authentic provenance.
Provenance: Found in the attic of a North Norfolk property.

Attic found with surface wear and losses
Gesso flaking and gilding loss are present. Parts of the plasterwork are loose, specifically small parts of the left and right sides of the piece. See images 4 and 5.
