A late 18th-century coopered jug bound with iron hoops. This is the second of two we are offering for sale. This jug is slightly broader at the base than the other.
Constructed from oak staves, the jug displays the true craftsmanship of the cooper (barrelmaker).
With an iron pouring spout, a shaped metal handle, and a bulbous body, and bound by four iron rings.
Provenance - Unknown - possibly French in origin, given its form and construction.
Condition - As per the images. There is surface wear commensurate with age. The hoops have been painted black historically. Some of the paint has now worn to the base metal. The staves are sound. All-in-all, the jug has rustic charm and would look good displayed in many settings.
Size - Height 47 cm x Base Diameter 27.3 cm (18 1/2" x 10 3/4")
