A finely executed antique oil portrait depicting a young woman at the age of fifteen, dressed in richly detailed Renaissance attire. Her crimson gown is adorned with intricate white lace, puffed sleeves, and jewel-like embellishments, complemented by a pearl necklace, a cross-form choker, and a bejewelled headpiece. Her composed expression and stylised features evoke the elegance and restraint of early European portraiture.
Set against a dark ground that enhances the vibrancy of her costume, the painting is housed in an ornate gilt frame with elaborate foliate carvings. The inscription “ÆTAT 15” in the upper corner denotes her age, a classical convention found in 16th-century portraiture. Likely an early 19th-century (or possibly earlier) homage to Northern Renaissance originals, this piece blends historic reverence with Victorian craftsmanship.
A collector’s gem—ideal for those drawn to Old Master studies, historic portraiture, or decorative arts with narrative depth.
Provenance: England. Early 19th century (possibly earlier).
Materials: Oil on panel. Presented in a gilt-gesso frame.
Condition: Good antique condition with age‑related wear, craquelure, and a stable, attractive patina. Presented in a 19th-century ebonised wooden frame. The frame shows expected marks consistent with age.
