An exceptionally rare hand blown dairy bowl / spouted cream Bowl.
Mid 18th-Century. English origin.
The Bowl has a flared rim with a spout over a tapering bowl-shaped body. To the underside is a raised pontil.
The earliest methods of cream separation involved gravity. In one early method, milk was poured into shallow pans (2 to 4 inches deep), usually formed in ceramic and known as setting pans. The pans were placed in a cool, clean room for 36 hours, allowing the cream to rise to the top. At that point, it was skimmed by hand with a tool called a "cream skimmer." The watery contents could then be poured away.
It is extremely rare to find a spouted cream bowl made from glass.
This would be ideal in a contemporary setting as a fruit bowl or a centre piece to a table.
Provenance - Sourced in Yorkshire. Two similar examples are known but with deeper bowls. One is in the collection of The National Trust:

Condition - Very good as per the images. No chips. Please note that the colour of the glass is per images 3 onwards as these have been taken outside in natural light. The first two images represent the glass as it looked when artificially lit for the purpose of the photograph.
