A striking homage to one of the greatest masters of the Baroque—this oil portrait, bearing the signature of the artist " F. Pacquee" is a 20th century interpretation of Peter Paul Rubens’ final self-portrait, rendered with reverence and technical skill.

Executed in oil on canvas and mounted on a later plywood support, the work captures Rubens’ introspective gaze and painterly confidence. The palette is rich, the brushwork evocative, and the composition faithful to the original 17th-century model. The piece is hand-signed, sold with its frame, and in excellent condition—ready to hang and admire.

This is not a reproduction but a unique studio work, created in the late 20th century by a Belgian artist deeply inspired by Rubens’ legacy. It offers collectors a chance to own a classical portrait with modern provenance, bridging centuries of artistic tradition.

Provenance: Belgium. Late 20th century. Dated "1984". In the manner of The Dutch Golden Age (after Rubens, 1577–1640).

Condition: Good. Please see the images.

Dimensions (with frame): H 90 cm × W 70 cm (approx. 35.4 × 27.6 in) Dimensions (without frame): H 80 cm × W 60 cm (approx. 31.5 × 23.6 in)

Historical Note

Rubens’ final self-portrait, painted around 1623 for King Charles I, remains one of the most iconic images of the Flemish master. This interpretation by F. Pacquee channels that legacy, echoing the Dutch Golden Age style while standing as a distinct work in its own right. Such studio tributes were common among artists seeking to study and honour the greats.
