A Small 17th Century English Antique Oak Child's Chest or Coffer

A charming 17thC English antique oak coffer of small proportions with its original two-panelled top. Most probably made for a child given its size.
Peg-joined construction.
The front is decorated with a lunette frieze above two panels supported on raised stile feet.
With its original lock plate. The lock and hasp are missing.
The lid lifts to reveal an interior with its original till (candlebox).
Condition - There is age-related wear to the stile feet and some traces of old non-active worm to the base of the feet too. The coffer does stand level. The worm has long since gone but has also been treated as a precautionary measure. The original hinges between the lid and the carcass have been replaced with later 19thC hinges and a later muntin has been overlaid over the original horizontal timber at the base of the back to add strength (see final image). All the joints are sound and the coffer is ready to go.
