A Pair of Large 19th Century Antique Plaster Corbels Cast in the Form of Angels

This impressive pair of antique plaster corbels originates from France and dates to the 19th century. Each corbel is cast as the head, torso, and wings of an angel, emerging in bold relief and supporting an armorial shield positioned directly beneath a stepped, gilded pediment. The sculptural modelling is full of character: expressive faces, finely rendered wings, and crisp architectural detailing that speaks to the quality of the original workshop.

These were originally conceived as architectural ornament — likely for an ecclesiastical building or a grand French interior — and now make superb decorative wall pieces. Their scale and presence allow them to function as standalone sculptures or as dramatic symmetrical elements flanking a doorway, fireplace, or alcove.
