These decorative 18th-Century Gustavian (Swedish) antique pewter candlesticks made by M. Moberg in 1786 (his name and date are impressed to the underside of the base of both sticks) exhibit a refined elegance typical of the Gustavian style, which blends neoclassical elements with Swedish design sensibilities.
An identical pair were sold at Bowkowski's Auctions (Part of Bonhams Group), 2nd June 2015, lot 1298, for £980 GBP + premium.
The candlesticks feature a flared base that transitions into a slender, tapering stem, topped with a cylindrical holder for the candles. The candlesticks have subtle decorative elements, such as ribbed patterns. These enhance their aesthetic without overwhelming the design.
Crafted from pewter, the surface has a soft sheen, giving them a classic look while maintaining a rustic charm.
Overall, these candlesticks are not only functional but also serve as beautiful decorative pieces that reflect the craftsmanship and style of the late 18th century.
Condition - As per the images. There is some surface wear, as one would expect, commensurate with age. A detailed condition report is available upon request.
