Originally made in the 18th century in England from oak as an open delft rack, the backboards were added later to fill in the back. These backboards are formed from deal (pine).
The rack would have been used to display and store decorative ceramics such as Delft plates and related items.
The shaped pediment is decorated with dentil moulding and a shaped apron below over five central shelves and flanked at either side by four small compartmentalized shelves with shaped moulding to the upper corner spandrels of each.
This is a good-looking piece of antique furniture that would look at home in either a cottage or country house kitchen.
Provenance - Sourced from a private collection in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Condition - Please refer to the images. There is some surface wear commensurate with age. One piece of dentil moulding is missing to the top left corner (top right of image one, two, five and six). The rack displays well.
Size - Width x Height x Depth
