A Diminutive Early 18th-Century Orthodox Antique Travelling Icon of Saint George Slaying The Dragon
A small travelling icon dating back to the early 18th-Century.
Most probably Greek Orthodox in origin.
Formed from an arcaded wood panel with applied gilt-gesso, the arched pediment inset with a hand-painted winged cherub over a rectangular panel with a hand-painted depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon.
Saint George is the patron saint of England.
Provenance - Ex-USA based private collection.
Condition - Please refer to the images. The images speak for themselves. There is some surface west commensurate with age. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
Size - Height 16 cm x Width 10 cm x Depth 1.5 cm (6 1/3" x 4" x 2/3").
