A rare 17th-century Iberian antique table casket, crafted from repoussé-worked sheet iron and covered in deep crimson velvet. This richly decorative box dates to circa 1650–1690 and reflects Spanish or Portuguese craftsmanship of the Baroque period.
The lid opens to reveal a compartmentalised interior, likely used for storing valuables, devotional items, or correspondence. The ironwork is finely chased with floral and foliate motifs, while the velvet retains traces of its original pile and colour. The form is architectural, with a domed lid, riveted mounts, and an ornamental clasp.
A striking and evocative survival of Iberian domestic art — ideal for collectors of Spanish or Portuguese antiques, Baroque metalwork, or historical caskets.
Provenance: Spain or Portugal. 17th century.
Condition - As per the images. There is surface wear, but all this is a charming box of the period to which it relates. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
